About Project Nature In Danger

Launched in September 2024, Nature in Danger is an ongoing initiative by Ukrainian Jersey City that sheds light on the devastating environmental consequences of the war in Ukraine. The project focuses on raising awareness of the widespread destruction of Ukraine’s ecosystems and supporting organizations dedicated to ecological restoration and recovery.

Through research, public discussions, and annual fundraising events, our mission is to inform local and global audiences about the urgent need to address the environmental crisis caused by war — a form of ecocide that threatens biodiversity, food security, and the health of communities far beyond Ukraine’s borders.

Nature in Danger focuses on these urgent environmental challenges:

  • Global food insecurity and rising prices caused by disrupted agricultural production.

  • Demining of forests, farmlands, and waterways, as minefields now cover about 30% of Ukrainian territory.

  • The Kakhovka Dam explosion, which led to catastrophic habitat loss, flooding, and chemical pollution in the Black Sea.

  • Forest destruction and fires triggered by constant shelling and military activity along the frontlines.

  • Damage to chemical and electrical plants, releasing toxic substances into the environment.

  • Accumulation of plastic and household waste along the frontlines.

  • Animal protection and rescue efforts, habitat destruction, domestic and wild animals displaced or injured by the war.

  • Role of Nature in Ukrainian culture, celebrating the deep connection between the land and its people.

By joining the Nature in Danger project, you support a movement to heal Ukraine’s environment, rescue its wildlife, and restore the natural balance that sustains life. Together, we can protect what remains — and restore what has been lost.
